The University of Arizona’s Chemistry building underwent a recent renovation that presented designers with the task of seamlessly integrating modern accessibility and timeless architectural elements into the existing structure. With its inclusion on the historic preservation list, this expanded facility spans 78,600 square feet, accommodating new classrooms and state-of-the-art laboratories designed to cater to the needs of students and faculty alike. A striking glass corridor now links the original building with the new expansion, fostering connectivity between the chemistry department and the adjacent Biochemistry department. Despite the challenges posed by the building’s age, the design of the new addition was meticulously crafted to complement and highlight the historical significance and distinctive character of the previous chemistry building.
